Gosky 20-60X80 Spotting Scope Q&A:

What is BaK-4 and BK-7 Glass?

There are two different types of glass that make up the prism assembly in the spotting scope. BaK-4 has a slightly higher refractive index rate over BK-7. They each have unique identifiers that makes for quick identification of what type of glass the scope is made with. BK-7 is typically the most common glass used in budget spotting scopes while BaK-4 glass is more often seen in more expensive spotters. For more on the two types of glass, check out our “Glass 101: BK7 vs BAK4” article!

What are all the Included Accessories in the Spotting Scope Bundle?

Gosky spotting scope and accessoriesThis is the most generous bundle we’ve seen included in a spotting scope buy.

The Gosky 20-60X80 spotting scope comes with:

  • digiscope adapter
  • tripod
  • carry bag
  • manual.

The Gosky website also says they throw in two lens caps for the spotter.

What is a Digiscope Adapter?

A digiscope adapter is a mount and phone holder that attaches to the ocular of the spotting scope. It allows you to align the camera on your cell phone, like a smart phone, with the exit pupil to take photos, record, and view with even more magnification on your phone.

Do you have to Remove the Phone Case to use the Adapter?

The included adapter is a universal one with a 14mm depth clamp. As long as the phone and case isn’t thicker than that, you can use the adapter with the phone in the case.

Does the Angled Eyepiece Rotate in Place?

Yes, this spotting scope does feature an adjustable eyepiece that can be rotated at various angles to suit the user.

Is this a good Spotting Scope for the Target Range?

Gosky spotting scope set up for target shootingThe narrow field of view is actually a benefit in this case.

Usable ranges have been reported by users out to 300 yards with splatter targets.

However, at 100 yards, it works excellently without maxing magnification.

So yes, this will be a great spotter for getting in target practice at the range.

Can you use another Eyepiece from another Brand on this Spotter?

No. This spotting scope doesn’t feature an interchangeable/adjustable eyepiece system meaning you can’t remove the eyepiece. This feature is generally seen on more expensive spotting scopes such as some of the ones we have reviewed here.

What is Dynamic Lens Focusing System?

Many optics brands have their own term for this feature, but essentially it’s a type of automatic focus system that provides clarity and sharpness wherever you look at any given distance.

Noteworthy Features:

  • Tons of value for price and included equipment
  • Easy to use with universal digiscope adapter
  • Rotational eyepiece for angled viewing
  • Shock-absorbing rubber armor
  • Dynamic lens focusing system

Our Verdict on the Gosky Spotting Scope

Gosky 20-60x60mm ScopeThe scoop on the scope is, the Gosky 20-60X80 Spotting Scope is a fantastic buy for the money. You’re getting a ton of stuff in the purchase that would usually cost you over a $100 more for the extra equipment and accessories. For spotting out several hundred yards, you’re good to go. For range use, staying within the 200 yard range for groupings is to be expected.

Since Gosky seems to be the way to go, you should check out their 15-45X60 Spotting Scope for under $100 that includes the digiscope adapter accessory. With the lower, more usable magnification range, dynamic lens focusing system, and fully multi-coated optics, why look anywhere else for a steal in price?

However, if you’re looking for a wider field of view, even more compact design, and a spotter under $200, then you have to glass by and check out the Bushnell Trophy Xtreme 16-48X50 Spotting Scope. You’ll see a variation in included accessories over the Gosky one, and you’ll also see an upgraded warranty that’s worth considering!

Gosky hits it out of the ball park when it comes to competing with the viable competition. With the included ability to film and snap shot your spotting experience, it definitely has a hand over the rest. Nice move Gosky!
