Trophy Ridge React V5 Bow Sight
The vertical 5-pin React V5 bow sight has made quite the fuss among bow hunters. It's a highly-rated sight that has yet to be proven mathematically wrong in design concept and performance.
What's so great about the React V5? Let us tell you.
First off, it's part of the React Series that is known for Trophy Ridge's React technology. You sight in two pins and the rest of them will fall in place.
What does that mean? Sight in your 20 yard pin and then step back and set your 30 yard pin.
Based on the distance between these two pins, the React V5 will automatically know how much pin gap is needed for the 40, 50, and 60 yard pins. It's amazing!
The V5 allows for dual axis adjustments and you also have tool-less micro windage and elevation adjustments. As is obvious, this bow sight has the vertical pin setup that allows for a clear and unobstructed field of view. You still have the advantages of multiple, fixed pins, but with the wide field of view of a single pin.
It's also a very compact and lightweight sight. It ought to be super light as it's made with Trophy Ridge's Ballistix CoPolymer System. It's more durable than plastic, isn't metal, but it's said to be as strong as aluminum.
The composite construction may be a disadvantage for some potential buyers, but it hasn't deterred many current buyers and users yet.
Pros:
- Price
- React technology
- 2nd axis adjust
- Vertical pin sight
- Tool-less adjustments
Cons:
- Not all-metal housing
Trophy Ridge React V5 Q&A
Is this a good 3D archery bow sight?
The React technology and open field of view of the horizontal pin setup makes for a good design for 3D shooting. However, the pins are very bright and with .019" pin size they can halo and make for very small aiming on various targets difficult. But, it would make for an excellent hunting bow sight.
What are the advantages of Vertical pins VS Horizontal pins?
Pin setup is really a personal preference as to what system you know really well. The only real advantage of vertical pins over horizontal pins is the cleaner sight picture of having multiple pins perfectly aligned without obstructing your field of view.
Are instructions included with React V5 bow sight?
Unfortunately, it seems no written instructions are included with the React V5. You'll have to take advantage of Trophy Ridge's setup videos online.
How to Sight in the Trophy Ridge React Bow Sight?
You must sight in your 20 yard pin first. This is the top (tallest) pin. After sighting in the 20-yard pin, step back another 10 yards and set the 30 yard pin. This will be the next pin down from the 20-yard pin.
You must set this pin with the included Allen wrench. Once these two distances have been sighted in, the remaining pins can be simultaneously moved to automatically adjust for pin gap.
Can you set the first pin at 30 yards with React Technology?
No. React technology works in 10 yard increments that must start with a 20-yard pin.
Will all compound bows work with React Technology?
Velocity is the factor that will determine if your bow will work with React technology. It must shoot between 250-330 fps in order to be compatible with React tech.
Is this a Right or Left bow model?
This is a right hand bow sight. Unfortunately, this model is not available for left hand bows.
Can you use this bow sight from a Tree Stand?
You could if you wish. This is one of those personal preference questions that only you can answer as this bow sight doesn't allow for 3rd axis adjustments.
While 3rd axis helps with steep angle shooting, such as from a tree stand, there are hunters that pay no attention to the bubble level and are not misled and haven't needed 3rd axis adjustments.
However, even a properly tuned bow with 3rd axis could help a shooter increase their success rates out in the stands.
Is a sight light included?
A sight light is included. LR41 batteries are required for replacement.
Noteworthy Features:
- React technology mathematically adjusts for precise pin gap
- Fast and easy to sight in with just two pin adjustments
- Vertical in-line pin technology for clear field of view
- Tool-less micro windage and elevation adjustments
- Ballistix CoPolymer System for soft-touch and durable housing
Our Verdict on the Trophy Ridge React V5
Narrowing things down, the React V5 doesn't disappoint. It delivers on what it promises: accurate pin reaction. The open and unobstructed field of view is a highlight feature as it still maintains the fixed pin setup without the clutter.
If you want solid performance from a solid-performing bow sight, the V5 gets it done. We even gave it the top spot in our line up of the best 5-pin bow sights AND our line up of the best bow sights under $200! You could say we like this sight!
But, the V5 is only one bow sight in the React Series. The Trio Pro also offers the React technology, but its pin setup is something different. You have two, horizontal, fixed pins and one, vertical, moveable pin. You have multiple advantages in one easy to use bow sight - check out the Trio Pro here.
Another vertical pin bow sight is the Spot Hogg Fast Eddie XL. It's not quite fair to compare it to the React V5 as it's more expensive and of higher quality (as you can read about the Fast Eddie xl here). But, while it technically has an adjustable, single-pin setup, a second fiber optic pin is built-in, and it cleans up the view even more than the V5.
The React V5 has a lot of advanced tech going for it, but it's a simple sight to use. Its solid performance is why it's such a hit product with bow shooters. Master your bow, tighten your groups, and make adjustments simpler with the React V5.
